Sometimes people might send you an iMessage that you don't want to be bothered with. You may not want to receive notifications if someone from work sends you an iMessage, or if a spammer sends you a message. iOS allows you to select who you receive notifications from so all you have to do is disable alerts for anyone who is not in your contacts list.
Disabling the alerts is simple. The first step will be to go to Settings of course:

- Tap Settings on the Home screen of your iPhone or iPad.
- Tap on Notifications.
- Tap Messages.
- Once in Messages Settings, scroll down until you see the section for "My Contacts Only."
- Tap My Contacts Only
- That's it!
Now only people who are in your contacts list will trigger an alert if they send you an iMessage.
